Internal Ease

What is that feeling when all feels ‘right’?  When your thoughts, beliefs and actions are in agreement with each other?  There is no fight within… only calm. Some call it “congruence”.  Some call it “peace”.  Some call it “clarity”.

We call it “internal ease”.  It is not only a lovely state, it is a feedback mechanism from inner self.  A sense of balance… a sense of readiness.

So what about being “uneasy” or in an “incongruent” state?  Perhaps it’s less pleasant, but no less useful.  This unease is feedback that all is not right…you are not in agreement with a thought, feeling or action. Feeling ill at ease or “incongruent” is a signal that you need to do some internal work in order to effectively take action.

Purpose: To access and understand feedback on your current internal state

Outcome: You will learn to identify consciously the feelings that signal congruence and incongruence in your body.

The Exercise:

Part I:  Think of a time when you were ‘congruent’ about something.

Live the moment.
What do you see, hear, smell, taste and feel?  What is the internal feeling you have that signals this internal agreement?  (e.g. a feeling in your stomach, a tingling at the back of your neck, the depth of your breathing)  Note this feeling for future reference and use.

Do this 2 more times and note all 3 experiences.

Clear the last experience before moving to the next part of the exercise —  change position, move your arms and legs, shake it out.

Part II:  Now… think of a time when you were ‘incongruent’ with something.

Live the moment.
What do you see, hear, smell, taste and feel? What is the internal feeling you have that signals this internal agreement?  (e.g. queasiness, dryness of your mouth, shallowness of your breathing, fatigue, etc)  Note this feeling for future reference and use.

Do this 2 more times and note all 3 experiences.

Part III:  Take it into your world.

You have now reached a level of consciousness that will become immediate feedback for you to determine your state of readiness.

The next time you are preparing for a major decision, sitting down to set goals, or intending decisive action check your signals.

Are you in your feet?  Is your breathing even?  Are you ready to act?  Are you congruent?

If not… acknowledge it, and log this as something to work on!
